Indomitable Spirit

I received my first agent rejection for Birthday Ranch today. Maybe it will be the last. Maybe not. Regardless, I’m grateful for the agent’s courtesy and kindness in reaching out to me at all.

Listen, I’ve stalled out on my writing momentum, I admit. This past weekend I organized both the garage and the pantry after binge watching The Home Edit on Netflix. But I’m not going to beat myself up about any of it.

Just because I’m procrastinating doesn’t mean that I won’t achieve my goals.

This is how I know:

My son takes Taekwondo lessons, in which he was tasked with memorizing the discipline‘s 5 tenets (I googled them and there are actually 6 tenets of Taekwondo, but the final one is Victory, and apparently that one isn’t age-appropriate for 6-year-olds).

The 5 Tenets of Taekwondo

1. Courtesy

2. Integrity

3. Perseverance

4. Self-Control

5. Indomitable Spirit

We all know that Perseverance is the one that makes dreams come true, but my favorite one is Indomitable Spirit. That’s the quality that keeps a person going no matter what, with positivity and aplomb. It’s the special je ne sais quios that allows someone to be brave when they are afraid, and kind when they are hurting.

These 5 tenets really comprise a golden rule for life. That agent displayed the first, and I intend to exhibit the last.
